Indian Diabetes Storytelling Lab:

The Diabetes Storytelling Lab is looking for 50 innovative storytellers and community leaders in India to develop creative communication products that can support diabetes awareness in India.

India is home to 77 million people living with diabetes - the second highest number amongst the world’s countries. Yet, 1 in 2 people living with diabetes in India are unaware of their condition. The challenge is further exacerbated by COVID-19, as people with diabetes appear to be more susceptible to becoming severely ill with the virus.

Creative communication is needed to raise awareness around diabetes prevention in India and its links to COVID-19. In response, WDF and Dalberg Media, with support from USAID, are hosting a creative online process to generate ideas for diabetes awareness building and prevention – the Diabetes Storytelling Lab. The lab starts in September with three online digital bootcamps. Each will last one day and introduce teams to the innovation methodology. The final sprint will take place over three days from October 15-17, one month prior to World Diabetes Day. “Story telling is a deep-rooted tradition in Indian culture and has been used for thousands of years to convey human values and societal norms. Stories create connection, and when based on real life they provide a great platform for learning and reflection,” says Dr Anil Kapur, chairman of the WDF Board. “I hope this initiative will provide a platform for learning and action for Indian society as a whole, including health care providers and planners.”

Scope of Work:

Storytelling Lab participants will work with topics such awareness building and health promotion while becoming part of a movement of passionate community leaders and storytellers collaborating to defeat diabetes. A total of 25,000 USD will be distributed to top teams to support the implementation of their ideas.

Funding: Top teams will receive 25,000 USD to help implement their ideas.

Deadline: 5th July, 2021
